Town-wide Improvements

Hitchin is a beautiful and historic town, but like any place, it needs a bit of care to keep it looking its best. Over the years, many parts of our town centre have started to show signs of wear and tear. From public benches and bollards to entranceways and building exteriors, these areas are in need of repair and attention.

At Action Hitchin, we’re launching a town-wide improvement project to tackle these issues head-on. Our goal is simple: to restore pride in our shared spaces and make Hitchin as welcoming and attractive as it can be.

What Needs Doing?

There are plenty of small but important jobs that need to be addressed to brighten up Hitchin’s streets and public areas:

  • Cleaning: Removing dirt, graffiti, and grime from public furniture, walls, and pavements.

  • Repainting: Refreshing bollards, benches, railings, and signs to give them a clean and tidy appearance.

  • Repairs: Fixing broken seating, damaged exteriors, and other worn-out features around the town.

  • Restoration: Bringing neglected areas back to life with small but meaningful improvements.

These changes might seem small on their own, but together they can make a big difference to the look and feel of Hitchin.

Why This Matters

First impressions count, and a clean, well-maintained town makes everyone feel proud to live here. It also benefits local businesses by making the town centre more inviting for shoppers and visitors. Whether you’re strolling through the market, meeting friends in Bancroft Gardens, or simply running errands, a tidy and cared-for environment can lift everyone’s spirits.

A Brighter Future for Hitchin

Together, we can make Hitchin a place we’re all proud to call home. By restoring these small but essential parts of the town, we’ll create a brighter, more welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.
